The University of California system and UC San Diego invest significant resources in conducting quality surveys of their student, alumni, academic and staff populations on a regular basis. The survey data is available through the links on this site and there is also contact information for questions about the surveys. Please review existing surveys prior to submitting a request to conduct a new survey.

Undergraduate Surveys

UC Undergraduate Experiences Survey (UCUES) Provides vital information on student needs, concerns, and experiences essential to developing programs and practices to improve undergraduate life. Census of all Undergraduates over age 17 Biennial
College Senior Survey (CSS) Designed as an exit survey for graduating seniors; CSS includes a range of college outcomes and post-college goals and plans. Census of 4th-5th Year Students Biennial
Post-Baccalaureate Survey The survey collects information about post graduate degree plans, satisfaction with preparation for graduate school, employment activity, and participation in extra and co-curricular experiences. All students in three seperate graduating cohorts Every 3-4 Years

It is run by the Tritonlytics/Strategic Consulting, Assessments, and Analytics (SCAA) team and is designed to help business units assess their service level and impact via undergraduate and graduate student customer feedback. Graduate Surveys

Survey Description Sample Frequency
University of California Graduate Student Experience Survey (UCGSES) Survey solicits students’ opinions on a broad range of academic and co-curricular experiences, including instruction and training, advising, basic needs, and student services. Master and Doctoral Students Biennial (In place of GradSeru)
GradSeru (SERU Consortium) The Graduate Student Experience in the Research University (gradSERU) is a comprehensive survey designed to help answer questions about the potential relationship between graduate education experiences, program characteristics, and development outcomes. Master and Doctoral Students No longer administered. Last administered in 2021.
Graduate Division Exit Survey The purpose of the survey is to improve the graduate experience for current and future students and to provide faculty and administrators a better understanding of the factors that impact graduate degree completion or withdrawal. Master and Doctoral Students Students who complete a dissertation or thesis are sent the exit survey via email before their preliminary appointment at Graduate Division. Students who complete a comprehensive exam are invited to take the survey six weeks after the end of the quarter.

UCOP Staff Engagement Survey (UCOP/Willis Tower Watson) The survey was developed by the Council of University of California Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) in collaboration with Systemwide Human Resources’ Employee Relations department and Willis Tower Watson, a firm conducting the survey on UC’s behalf.
